We arrived at the Las Palmas (The Palms) rather late. This is a much better hotel, but still not U.S. quality in some ways, although I think it is a sort-of Ritz hotel by Peruvian standards. The lobby, except for being small, is as classy as any Marriott or similar hotel in the U.S. However, the rooms are a bit more like a budget hotel. The room Andrew and I got had three beds in it. Sweet. (Or should I say ‘Suite’). Hot water, clean towels, very firm beds, but still no wash clothes. In the Miami Hostel (named because the owner once lived in Miami, I found out) they put out two new bars of soap each day. This room had three bars, one for each bed/person I guess. There was not a coke vending machine so I bought a half liter bottle Coke for 3 soles in the restaurant. That’s $1.05 in the U.S. money. Cheap compared to the U.S., but three times what I usually paid in Villa Maria.
It is very noisy outside. We are less than a quarter mile from the park in Mira Flores and you can tell you are in the heart of the Big City. The joint is a jumpin’.
My Internet comes and goes. I was able to upload some photos & post a few blogs posts I had written. Once again I stayed up too late upload photos & blogging.
