About the flight from Lima to Houston–if you have never left at midnight on an international flight, let’s just say that it is an excellent way to spend a miserable 6 hours. We were served dinner at about 12:30 AM-—I unwisely choose the beef. Good, but I got a lot of exercise while chewing it. We were awakened at 5 AM, not that we ever were really asleep, at least me anyway, for a muffin and a customs form. After we arrived, we had to wait about 30 minutes in the line for immigration but just a minute in the line for customs. All I had to do was explain the “Yes” I marked by “Did you bring food with you?” question–Chi-Cha flavored drink mix and Peruvian saltine crackers for my wild heathens who are going to drink it whether they like or not because I didn’t bring it all the way back from Peru for nothing.
I thought I put my electric razor and an extra shirt in my carry on bag, but I was wrong. The flight to Huntsville is in a small plane so our group will be about half of passengers. A small enclosed space half full of people who have just finished a long international flight and haven’t bathed in over 24 hours—this should be a fun ride. The only AC outlets I could find where in the hall/walkway to the gates so I had to sit in the floor in the hall next to an outlet to write this entry. I’m too cheap to pay $10 for Internet access at the Houston Airport, so I’ll upload this in Huntsville.
